About Us

Hey! We're Chris and Kristin, the owners of Moon's Records. Thank you for visiting our site!  We are so happy you're here, and we thought we would tell you a little about how Moon's Records came to be.   We would also like to respectfully acknowledge that we are living, working, and raising our family on the Unceded traditional territory of the K'òmoks First Nation. 

Chris is an artist/musician who has always had a passion for collecting music, especially on vinyl.  After working in the hospitality industry for 15 years, and feeling the need to make a transition into something better suited for a family lifestyle,  he started trying out a few new avenues.  One experiment was creating  a couple t-shirt designs to sell at local farmers markets alongside Kristin who had already begun selling her own line of handmade clothing. 

Kristin had previously been working in restaurants as well for most of her adult life, but had learned how to screen print, weave and dye fabric at Capilano University just before she had her first son. She used the knowledge gained through this program to start a business selling her products at markets. When Chris came to her with his t-shirt idea she taught him the basics of screen printing and he came up with a few more designs, which sold very well at the markets. Eventually they needed a space to work outside their home and ended up renting a studio space and store front in Coombs BC.  Chris played records there all day while the store was open and was happy to see that there was a lot of interest in vinyl!  He put out one small crate of used records to sell and this grew into a large part of the store.  He eventually called this part of the shop Moon's Records.  At this point, Chris and Kristin had not yet found their "forever place" to call home and raise their two awesome boys.   After visiting Cumberland many times to participate in local street markets and Christmas fairs,  they decided that it was exactly the place where they wanted to plant some roots. They found a place to set up their shop and eventually got themselves situated in the town. 

So that is our story so far!  Thanks for reading!   We hope you can come say hi and check out the shop in Cumberland, but for now keep in touch on Instagram and Facebook where we are posting all of our latest vinyl finds, re-released records, and our latest additions....Books and Skateboards!  If you know us from our previous shop in Coombs, you would also know that we have a passion for locally made artisan products, clothing, jewellery and art.  We still carry so much of that, as well as our own Moon's Records swag, and Vancouver Island inspired screen printed clothing of course, which we still design and print ourselves!
